Customer story · Food & beverage

Yogurt doesn’t wait. Neither does the order.

A premium dairy brand with a product measured in days, several depots across the country, an ERP that did not know eCommerce existed, and customers who had been asking for a website for a very long time. Then the offline stores stopped.

About the brand

Premium yogurt, with a clock on it.

A subsidiary of Drums Food International, Epigamia was the first Indian brand to enter Greek yogurt and has led the premium end of the category since. The range grew to snack packs, artisanal curd, cheese and smoothies, sold through thousands of online and offline touchpoints including Reliance Fresh, Big Bazaar, Big Basket and Amazon. All of its operations ran from the ground, in retail. There was no digital commerce setup at all, until the day there had to be.

The challenge

Everything an eCommerce business faces, all at once.

When offline retail halted, marketplaces surged and FMCG brands queued for listing slots. Epigamia’s wait for an Amazon slot was around seven days, then another 72 hours to fulfil. Going direct meant facing every eCommerce problem simultaneously, with a product that does not keep.

01

A perishable product, pan-India

Inventory with an extremely short shelf life had to be dispatched across the country inside a tight window, which took operational units and people dedicated to a schedule.

02

Several depots, no way to choose

Extra depots were opened to ship nationally. Picking the depot that should fulfil a given order, by demand and region, had no system behind it.

03

An ERP that could not see the channels

Microsoft Navision tracked inventory but does not connect to eCommerce channels, so reported stock was often wrong: shortages one week, waste the next, with no forecasting for a product that expires.

04

Payments and entries by hand

Payments from different channels and COD were not tracked, which hit margins directly, and invoices and ERP entries were manual, with the errors, delays and mismatches that implies.

The solution

A plan from scratch, depot by depot.

Having chosen Shopify as the storefront, Epigamia looked for an inventory system built for products with a definite shelf life and settled on EasyEcom. EasyEcom built the plan from scratch. This is the loop it runs.

The best part about EasyEcom is that the UI and UX of the system are so neat and simple that even the depot team can easily use it. The multi-user access features at different levels ease the day-to-day operations. The order is packed by the supply team and the accounts team can check the reports on the dashboard and punch the numbers in the system. EasyEcom helped smoothened my oral operations and we were able to deliver the products within 24 hours of confirmation. We are now processing thousands of units on a daily basis without any glitches.
