Returns without inspection
On a try-and-buy model the volume of returns is a given. Without a quality check at the door, returned stock was going back on the shelf ungraded, and inventory control suffered for it.
A try-and-buy mattress brand, which means returns are not a problem to minimise. They are the product working as designed. The systems underneath had not caught up with that.
video_yt and the frame follows the asset's own shape. The Sleep Company makes mattresses, bedding and chairs built around SmartGRID, a Japanese-engineered hyper-elastic polymer it was the first Indian brand to use. It owns the whole chain, from production and packaging to delivery, and sells on a try-and-buy model: sleep on it for 100 nights, send it back if it is not right. That is a generous promise. It also means a large share of what ships comes home again, and every one of those units has to be inspected, graded and put back to work.
The brand sold through offline stores, its own website and the marketplaces, on systems that did not talk to each other. As demand rose on the back of endorsements and marketing, the same six problems kept coming back.

Warehouse and inventory data sat in silos, which hid slow-moving stock from view and made the on-hand figure a matter of opinion.
Orders were promised against stock that was not actually available, so shipments slipped and delivery commitments were missed.
The gap between systems was closed by people: more hands, more hours, more cost, and a sales slowdown because nobody could see where the upside was.
The Sleep Company invested in an omnichannel order and warehouse system that took offline orders alongside eCommerce, and covered the whole chain from manufacturing to delivery. The previous process was transformed within six weeks of going live.
A mattress ordered in a store, on the website or on a marketplace lands in the same queue. Offline was folded into the same system as online, rather than bolted on beside it.

The change has been immediate and dramatic. Where we previously relied on multiple systems for different things and depended on external players for reports, we now have the clarity when needed and have saved countless hours on forward and reverse workflows. The support we’ve received from the account management and technical support on specific requests have been incredibly remarkable. Thanks to EasyEcom, The Sleep Company has scaled up in a shorter window than we envisioned!
