A market comes of age

Value outpaces volume

The 2025 festive season was a turning point — not just about growth, but about maturity. Rapid expansion was matched by stronger operations and smarter, more confident consumers. Shoppers weren't just buying more; they were buying better, as premium and planned purchases replaced impulsive flash sales.

64.8%increase in festive order volume

Underneath the headline, the two engines tell the story. Total orders processed nearly doubled year on year, and total GMV crossed ₹20 billion — with value climbing faster than volume. The market has moved from chasing festive demand to mastering it.

The shift

Growth is no longer about the size of the crowd. It's about the value of every basket in it.

Decoding the 2025 shopper

The “festive season” is now a festive quarter

The mad October rush is a thing of the past. Festive shopping now begins months in advance, with momentum building as early as August — and by the final weeks, daily order volumes were already up 300–400%. Today's shoppers are planners: they spread purchases, chase early offers, and avoid the last-minute scramble.

Relative daily order volume. Momentum builds from August, and the peak is no longer a single week.

The morning mission. Endless browsing gave way to focused buying. Between 9 AM and 1 PM, nearly half of all daily orders were placed, a striking sign of how purposeful the modern shopper has become. They start their mornings with intent: find the right deal, place the order, and move on with the day.

“The dip wasn't weak demand. It was intention. Shoppers finished early, then chose to disconnect and celebrate. The heart of the festival still belongs to family, not the cart.”

Where India shopped

The map of festive demand

Uttar Pradesh was the epicenter of festive volume with nearly a million orders, while the western states led on value. The story of 2025 is scale in the north and heartland, sophistication in the metros.

The great divide

Where orders were placed vs where value was generated

Marketplaces and D2C stores drew almost the same number of orders, but the value split them apart. Marketplaces moved the volume; D2C punched above its weight on basket size, and quick-commerce quietly became a B2B backbone.

The B2B quick-commerce revolution

Platforms like Blinkit, Swiggy-Instamart and Zepto exploded — not as consumer gift destinations, but as critical B2B logistics partners. Their phenomenal growth, with Blinkit leading at +217% in value, signals a new role: powering ultra-fast delivery for other brands and retailers during the festive rush.

The brand's operational overhaul

A war on waste — and a sprint on speed

Behind the growth was discipline. Brands fought a war on waste, optimised warehouse space, and built accuracy into customer trust — getting faster even as volumes doubled.

The hidden engine

More revenue, less cost. Doubling sales while cutting COGS is the signature of data discipline and a higher-margin mix.

The verdict on returns

A story of growing customer conviction

The dramatic drops in returns for Fashion and Home show a two-sided victory: a more educated consumer met by brands providing the clarity needed to build trust and reduce friction.

The final word

The new rules of dominance

1

Embrace the scale

Build for a market that has doubled in value: capacity, catalog and systems sized for the new baseline.

2

Cater to confidence

Focus on premium products and D2C strength: the confident shopper rewards brands that earn trust.

3

Master the rhythm

Align marketing and logistics with the new festive pattern: the quarter-long build, the morning rush, the sacred pause.

India no longer shops in chaos.

It shops in rhythm, precision, and value.
